The 3M™ Hydrocarbon Absorbent Cord is typically used to surround and control spills and leaks, as well as for cleaning and recovering petroleum-based liquids and their derivatives in streams, ponds, lakes, rivers, and other areas with water. Being hydrophobic (water-repellent), it is ideal for absorbing hydrocarbons in areas where water may also be present.

3M™ Hydrocarbon Absorbents are innovative, highly effective products with a higher absorption capacity than traditional ones. They are hydrophobic, making them suitable for absorbing hydrocarbons in areas where water may also be present. They do not disintegrate or sink when saturated with oil, allowing them to be easily recovered and disposed of. They absorb 10 to 15 times their weight, depending on the model, and the High Capacity series absorbs 15 to 20 times their weight.
